焼尻島物語　その17

島の浜辺に春の風が吹きはじめるころ、
待ちに待った海藻摘みの季節がやってきます。

フノリ、岩ノリ、ギンナン草。
浜辺はにわかに活気づきます。

向かいのおじいちゃんから、採れたての岩ノリが届くのも、この季節。
味噌汁にひとつまみ入れると、磯の香りがふわりと広がります。

それを味わうとき、島の豊かさをしみじみと実感します。

野鳥や草花も島の大切な観光資源ですが、
私のいちばんのおすすめは、この海藻です。
ひと口味わえば、もう言葉はいりません。

Yagishiri Island Stories – Part 17

When the spring wind begins to blow along the island’s shore,
the long-awaited season of seaweed gathering arrives.

Funori, rock nori, and ginnan grass bring life to the beaches.
At our home, freshly harvested rock nori is delivered
by the elderly neighbor across the way.

When added to miso soup,
the scent of the sea fills the mouth.

To taste it is to truly feel the goodness of the island.

Wild birds and flowers may be among Yagishiri’s treasures,
but my personal favorite is this seaweed.
Once you taste it, no words are needed.
